Stress induced ethylene production, ethylene binding, and the response to the ethylene action inhibitor 1-MCP in miniature roses

چکیده
In an interior environment, the display life of miniature potted roses (Rosa hybrida L.) `Bronze' was 7 days, while that of `Vanilla' was 23 days. Although there was a substantial difference in ethylene production between flowers from two cultivars, there was no difference in binding site activity (kd 0.14 nl lÿ1). Pre-treatment with the ethylene action inhibitor 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) did not have a clear effect on display life without preceding transport stress. When the plants were subjected to simulated transportation stress, post-harvest life of both cultivars was reduced (to 6 days for `Bronze', and to 17 days for `Vanilla'). In `Bronze' the stress resulted in a modest increase in ethylene production, but there was no effect of stress on the low ethylene production by `Vanilla' flowers. Nevertheless, pretreatment with 1-MCP before transport simulation improved display life of both cultivars. # 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

In order to improve the postharvest quality and the export ability of cut rose (Rosa hybrida L.) cvs. Happy Hour and Bordeaux, the effect of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) as an ethylene inhibitor, was investigated. 1-MCP was used at 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6 g m-3 for 18 h at 8 °C to simulate the transport of flowers. 1-MCP treatment significantly prolonged the vase life and minimized the weight los...
متن کاملConsequences on ethylene metabolism of inactivating the ethylene receptor sites in diseased non-climacteric fruit
Penicillium digitatum-infected grapefruit synthesize large quantities of the stress hormone ethylene. The compound 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) inhibits the binding of ethylene to the ethylene receptor site, the ethylene binding protein (EBP). Treating infected fruit with 1-MCP prevented infection-induced degreening, such that fumigated fruit retained their green immature color compared to yell...

In order to study the effect of external ethylene on postharvest display and activity of some senescence-related enzymes in potted miniature roses, this experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design, using three treatment levels with three replications. In glass chambers, potted miniature rose plants were exposed to ethylene concentrations of 0, 5 and 10 μL L-1 for 12 h. The resu...

This study was performed to evaluate the role of ethylene stress, ethylene inhibitors and action treatments on longevity of potted-carnation flowers. For this purpose, first, potted-carnation flowers were pretreated with different concentrations of amino-oxyacetic acid (AOA), benzyladenine (BA) and 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP). Then, ethephon (as stress treatment) was sprayed on the pretreated ...
